TEAM WHITE CLINCHES TOURNAMENT WITH 3-2 WIN OVER FINLAND

OTTAWA – Team White finished the tournament with an impressive 3-1 record after a 3-2 victory over Finland on Friday night.

Finland opened the scoring in the second period after a scoreless first period when Emma Laaksonen scored an unassisted goal at 3:26.

Canada responded 54 seconds later when defencemen Bobbi Jo Slusar (Swift Current, SK) potted a short handed marker to knot things up at 1-1.

Team White took a 3-1 lead after Annie Guay (Rouyn Noranda, QC) roofed one with four minutes remaining in the second period, and a shot deflected off Rebecca Johnston on the powerplay with just over a minute left.

Finland narrowed the lead to 3-2 on a powerplay goal by Michelle Karvinen 55 seconds in to the third, but that was as close as it would get with Team White taking a 3-2 decision.
