U.S. PERFECT THROUGH PRELIMS AFTER BLANKING KOREA

JESSICA GOWANS

LONDON, Ont. – Declan Farmer had four goals and an assist, Brody Roybal added a goal and four helpers and the United States shut out Korea 8-0 on Friday to close out a perfect preliminary round at the 2018 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup.

The Americans will take on Canada in the gold medal game on Saturday afternoon (4 p.m. ET, TSN).

In all, 10 American players found the scoresheet. Ralph DeQuebec was the only U.S. player outside of Farmer and Roybal with multiple points; he had two assists.

It was another dominant performance from start to finish from the U.S., which outshot Korea 10-1 in the first period and finished with a 31-1 advantage on the shot clock.

Farmer opened the scoring midway through the opening frame. Roybal stole the puck from a Korean defender and passed if off to Farmer, who fired it through a maze of bodies in front.

Kevin McKee doubled the lead late in the first with a snap shot from the top of the left circle off a face-off win by Rico Roman.

Three straight goals from Farmer in the second period put the game out of reach. The first was a quick strike 35 seconds into the frame on a shot from the slot. Less than a minute later he finished off a pretty passing play from Gooley and Roybal, and his final goal started with an end-to-end rush by Roybal, who made a drop pass to Farmer, who in turn wired it past Korean netminder Man Gyun Yu.

Luke McDermott got in on the scoring later in the middle stanza; with the Americans on the power play, he swatted in a puck that was loose in front of the net.

The 7-0 goal was a laser beam from a tight angle off the stick of Roybal with two seconds left in the second period, and Travis Dodson finished the scoring with a man-advantage marker with just under four minutes left in the third.

Jen Lee made a single save to earn the shutout in the American goal.
