Team Alberta and Team Quebec play to a 2-2 draw
Goaltending was the story early and late as Alberta held of Quebec to earn a 2-2 tie. Early on it was Quebec’s goaltender, Kathy Desjardins, who stole the show stopping all 12 shots she faced in the first period allowing Quebec to take a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Emanuelle Blais and Jesse Scanzano. Alberta climbed back into the game with a goal by Jessica Shanahan early in the second and Samantha Hunt tied the game only 25 seconds into the 3rd period. From there both goalies shut down their opponents with Team Alberta’s goalie, Carli Clemis, stopping 17 shots in the final frames, six in overtime as Quebec controlled the play for most of the extra period.
Ontario Red continues to roll
Ontario Red showed its dominance on Thursday morning dispatching of Team Atlantic 10-1. Meghan Agosta, Ontraio’s player of the game, was on top of her game early as she recorded a natural hatrick and added an assist in the first period to lead her team. Eight different players, including Agosta, scored for Ontario with Alison Domenic scoring one and adding three helpers. Marie-Helene Ploudre, Atlantic’s player of the game, was the lone goal scorer for her team as she converted on the power play mid-way through the second period. Melissa DiPetta stopped 27 of 28 shots for the win.
Ontario Blue gets their first win
Ontario Blue came out flying in the first period and rode the momentum to a 5-3 victory over Saskatchewan. Amanda Shaw, Carolyn Campbell and Samantha Poyton all scored their first goals of the tournament to give Ontario a 3-0 lead after the first period. Annie Del Guidice and Shannon Bowman added Ontario’s two other goals in the second period. Lana McInnes, Amanda Hungle and Kelsie Graham replied for Team Saskatchewan. Beth Rotenberg (ON) and Mandi Schawrtz (SK) were named the players of the game for their respective teams.
Hometown BC wins second straight
BC was victorious again on Thursday night in front of another enthusiastic home crowd downing Team Manitoba 4-2. BC was lead by Melissa Andersson who scored two goals in the opening period. Tonya Fasse and Leanne Wong capped off BC’s scoring in the second period. Melissa Jacques and Kailey Robertson were Manitoba’s only goal scorers. Stacey Corfield gave Manitoba a chance to come back in the third stopping all 14 shots she faced, but Ashley Mayr was equal to the task for BC stopping 7 of 8 in the third period
