BOOKER’S GOAL GIVES CANADA SLEDGE SWEEP OF U.S. BUFFALO, N.Y. – A power play marker off the stick of Jeremy Booker (Ajax, Ont.) was the game’s only goal as Canada’s National Sledge Development Team wrapped up a three-game sweep of the United States with a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. Booker, one of only three members of the Canadian side with previous National Sledge Team experience, was an offensive force, scoring six of Canada’s 10 goals in the series. After a scoreless first period that saw the Canadians hold a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, Booker put Canada ahead on the man advantage, taking a pass from Nicholas Tessier and beating U.S. goaltender Justin Kreger. Karl Ludwig earned the second assist on Canada’s first power play goal of the series. That would be it for offence as Canadian netminders Drew Rigden and Kris Dutkiewicz combined to stop all 13 shots they faced. In total, the Canadian goaltenders stopped 40 of 41 American shots in the series. The two teams will face-off again from January 13-15 in Essex, Ont. in another three-game set. |
