DIXON DOES IT AGAIN AS CANADA EARNS SLEDGE SERIES WIN

TORONTO, Ont. – Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) continued his shootout mastery on Saturday, scoring the winner for the second time in three nights his third shootout goal in total –as Canada’s National Sledge Team clinched a win in its three-game series with a 1-0 victory over the United States.

Just as he did two nights earlier, Dixon put the finishing touches on a Canadian win by beating U.S.goaltender Steve Cash, sending the pro-Canadian crowd at the MasterCard Centre into a frenzy.

In addition to his Thursday winner, Dixon was the only Canadian shooter to beat Cash on Friday, when the U.S. evened the series with a shootout win of its own.

Canada’s Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) and American captain Taylor Chace had traded goals earlier in the shootout, the first pucks to beat either Cash or Canadian netminder Benoit St-Amand (St-Hubert, Que.). Chace’s goal was the only one allowed by St-Amand in six shootout attempts over two games.

The 65 minutes of action that preceded the shootout was a tight-checking battle between the two North American rivals– the teams combined for only a handful of good chances, although both St-Amand and Cash got a little help from their goal posts.

Canada won’t have too much time to savour its victory– the two teams, along with Paralympic silver medallist Japan, meet for a series of games in Rochester, N.Y. from November 10-14.
