Yzerman’s number is the sixth Detroit number to be retired, joining Gordie Howe (9), Alex Delvecchio (10), Ted Lindsay (7), Terry Sawchuk (1) and Sid Abel (12)

• Retired from the NHL after the 2005-06 season, after playing 22 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings
• Was captain of the Red Wings for 20 seasons
• Three-time Stanley Cup champion (2002, 1998, 1997)
• Nine-time NHL all-star (2000, 1997, 1993, 1992, 1991, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1984)
• Winner of the 2003 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as the NHL player who best exemplifies perseverance and dedication to hockey
