The Team Canada Thanksgiving Festival three-team tournament is heating up in Day Three, with all three teams in the running for 1st place and last place. Team Wilson lost its first game, while Team Scherer hasn’t lost to date, but also hasn’t won a game yet. And Team St-Louis rebounded from an opening day loss to get a tie in the morning and an important win in the evening game.

Team Scherer took the lead in the 2nd period, as Cheryl Pounder (Mississauga, ON) beat goaltender Brittony Chartier (Saskatoon, SK) with a shot from the point, which seemed to change directions at the last moment.
But Team St-Louis battled hard to manage a tie, as Cherie Piper (Scarborough, ON) went in on a breakaway and slipped the puck past Kim St-Pierre (Châteauguay, QC)

The intensity continues to pick up in this week’s three-team tournament in Dartmouth, NS, and this was obvious with the high energy exhibited by both teams in the evening game, in front of a crowd of 1213.

The scoring started in the second, with Annie Desrosiers (St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, QC) scored twice, giving Team St-Louis a 2-0 advantage. Team Wilson cut the lead to one goal at 4:48 of the final period, as Caroline Ouellette (Montréal, QC) fired a wrist shot past Brittony Chartier. But Team Wilson’s momentum lasted a mere nine seconds, as Team St-Louis won the ensuing faceoff, gained the offensive zone and Darlene Stephenson (Virden, MB) banged a rebound past Tania Pinelli (Hamilton, ON) to put Team St-Louis back in front by two goals.
A late goal by Kelly Béchard (Sedley, SK) for Team Wilson made for an exciting finish, but Team St-Louis held on for a 3-2 victory.
The game was hard-fought and Canada’s National Women’s Team member Dana Antal (Esterhazy, SK) was injured in the second period, with what looked like a leg injury. Team Canada medical staff accompanied the Olympic gold medalist to the hospital for further examination.
