Canada 5 vs Canada U22 0 August 23, 2005 CANADA’S NATIONAL TEAM DEFEATS NATIONAL UNDER-22 TEAM 5-0 CALGARY, AB – Canada’s National Women’s Team defeated the National Under-22 by a score of 5-0 on Tuesday night at Father David Bauer Arena. In what was a sampling of both our 2006 Women’s Olympic team and potential players for Canada’s 2010 Women’s Olympic team, the game was rather interesting. The Women’s team was only able to get one by the Under-22 standout, Brittony Chartier in the first period as veteran Danielle Goyette converted on a nifty pass from Caroline Ouellette. In the middle frame, the Women’s team continued to pepper the young net minder as she faced 19 shots in the second period. Danielle Goyette scored her second of the night, while Jayna Hefford, Jennifer Botterill and Vicky Sunohara rounded out the scoring for the Women’s team. With a comfortable 5-0 lead heading into the third, the Under-22 team did not go quietly as they continued to pressure the veteran players and make them work for any open ice. Neither team scored in the third, with full marks going to the Under-22 for never giving up. Brittony Chartier made 48 saves on the night, while counterpart Charline Labonte made 14 saves for the shut-out victory. Both teams will play again on Thursday and Friday at Father David Bauer Arena.
