The second game of Canada’s NWT vs U22 series took place on Thursday afternoon at Father David Bauer Arena.  Despite a dominating first period Canada’s National Women’s team found themselves trailing for the first time in the series after Ashley Riggs put the Under-22 club up 1-0.  Streaking down the left wing, Riggs ripped a shot far side past Sami Jo Small.  After the 1st period it was 1-0 for the Under-22s.  
 
The Under-22 squad seemed to have gained some confidence with their one goal lead and played a much tighter 2nd period.  Offensively, both teams garnered very little offensively as their defensive play stuffed the opposition.   After two periods of play, the Under-22 team still led 1-0.  
 
The Under-22 team held the National Women’s Team off the scoreboard for two periods but a costly penalty early in the third proved to be a turning point in the game as Cherie Piper buried a power-play goal early to tie the game at one.  The NWT continued to pressure and it was Piper scoring once again as she went top shelf on Shannon Szabados giving her team the 2-1 lead.  The NWT then held off a last minute barrage by the Under-22s for the 2-1 victory.
