Canada 6 vs Canada U22 0 August 26, 2005 The National Women’s Team and Canada’s Under-22 team faced-off for the third and final time on Friday afternoon as the NWT prepared to leave for the Four Nations Cup on Saturday. The U22 squad got into penalty trouble early and often but a strong penalty kill kept them in the game. The NWT struck first as Gina Kingsbury buried a cross-crease pass from Kelly Bechard. The NWT continued to press and notched their second goal of the game as Jennifer Boterill fanned on her shot tricking Brittony Chartier as the puck found the back of the net. After one period of play, the NWT led 2-0. The NWT picked-up where they left off, pressuring the U22s with precise passing and a solid forecheck. Mid-way through the first, the U22s got into penalty trouble and the NWT Capitalized as Gillian Apps re-directed a pass from the point to make 3-0 for the NWT. Not long after, with a scramble in from of goaltender Brittony Chartier, Sunohara who was left all alone, lifted the puck over the fallen bodies in to the net giving the NWT a commanding 4-0 lead going into the third period. The NWT applied relentless pressure in the third and put the game out of reach for the U22s. Gina Kingsbury scored two goals for the hat trick as the NWT defeated the U22s 6-0.
