Canada 6 - Calgary UFA Bisons 4 Exhibition CALGARY, AB – Team Canada returned to action on Monday night at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, getting a 6-4 victory over the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League’s UFA Bisons. After two minutes of tentative play, Canada went on the power play at 2:53, when the Bisons’ Keenan Desmet was charged with a hooking penalty. And Canada’s power play got the scoring started. A shot from the point by Delaney Collins handcuffed Bisons’ goaltender Brett Hamm, and Dana Antal cashed in to open the scoring at 4:05. The Bisons responded quickly, a mere 48 secondes later, as Carsen Rowat was left unattended in front of the net, and cleverly deked Sami Jo Small to even things at 1-1 Gillian Apps put Canada ahead once again, as she converted a perfect pass from Cherie Piper at 7:16. But with Jennifer Botterill in the penalty box, UFA made it a 2-2 tie as Sean Androsoff’s shot from the point beat a screened Small. The first period scoring surge continued with Canada taking a 3-2 lead at 18:26, as Meghan Agosta finished off a 2 on 1 with Gina Kingsbury. Canada outshot the Bisons 13-8 in the first frame. The second period belonged to the Canadian squad, as they outshot the Bisons 19-4, and outscored 3-0 to take a 6-2 lead. Katie Weatherston scored two, and Caroline Ouellette added one late in the second, as Canada opened up a four goal lead. The Bisons regrouped for the third and final period, scoring twice to make the final minutes interesting. Rowat scored his second of the game at 16:06, and at 16:50, Desmet got UFA to within two goals. But that would be as close as it would get, as Canada claimed a 6-4 win, while registering 50 shots for the first time this season against a Midget AAA opponent Canada now faces an international opponent, as the fourth ranked team in the World, Sweden makes its way to Calgary, for games on December 10th, 11th and 13th.
