Canada 11 - Sweden 0 Exhibition LANDSKRONA, SWEDEN – Team Canada played their first of six games in Europe on Thursday night in the Swedish coastal town of Landskrona. After a dominating first period, Canada found itself up 5-0 over the home town Swedes. The offensive explosion came 14 minutes into the period when Canada rattled off four goals in a span of 49 seconds. Sostorics opened the scoring, followed by goals from Antal, Agosta (2), and Weatherston. Sweden’s goaltender Kim Martin was shelled with 25 shots in the first 20 minutes of play, while Charline Labonte turned aside a meager 6 shots. The second period was much more even than the first, with Sweden playing a very physical brand of hockey. Canada was forced to kill off two power plays where goaltender Charline Labonte had to be sharp. Canada increased its lead to 6-0 when defenseman Becky Kellar showed great patience with the puck before making a perfect 30 foot pass to Jennifer Botterill who came streaking off the bench and snuck in behind the Swedish defenseman before firing the puck past Martin. Sweden was slightly outshoot in the second period 7-5. The scoring continued for team Canada as Gillian Apps jumped on a rebound and slid home the seventh goal of the night for the red and white. Two minutes later Vicky Sunohara buried a rebound after captain Cassie Campbell out muscled a Swedish defenseman and got a shot off, earning her a third assist on the evening. Gillian Apps added her second of the night on a high-light reel goal. Apps left a drop pass for Wickenheiser, then drove hard to the net where Wickenheiser hit Apps with a great cross ice feed for the tap in goal. Katie Weatherston added her second of the night on a repeat of her first goal beating Martin with a back hand deke. Sunohara scored the 11th and final goal of the game. Charline Labonte made 18 saves earning her fourth shut-out in eight starts this year. Team Canada boarded the bus after the game for the one hour ride back to Tyringe where they will play Sweden on Friday night in the last warm up game before the Torino Ice Tournament in Italy.
