Canada 2 - Calgary AAA Northstars 1 (overtime) Exhibition CALGARY, AB – Canada returned home Sunday from a successful Torino Ice tournament that saw the National team go a perfect 4-0, and defeat the USA 7-0 in the final. After a day of rest Monday, the National team was back at it facing off against the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA team at Father David Bauer. Canada opened the scoring on a 2-on-1 odd man rush as Cherie Piper sent a perfect feed over to Meghan Agosta who pulled the puck across the crease before burying it past the Northstars goalie, Chris Woo. Canada’s Kim St-Pierre made a number of key saves in the first, including killing off all three Northstars power plays. With no scoring in the second period, Canada managed to kill off a pair of power play opportunities for the Northstars. There were very few scoring chances for either team as the shots on net were a mere 6-6. Canada held on to the 1-0 lead heading into the final period. Both teams exchanged three power play chances a piece, but it took until six seconds left in the game before the Northstars could solve Kim St-Pierre as Colin Bergman fired one home on the power play after Canada took their second too many men on the ice penalty. The five minute overtime only lasted just over two minutes as Meghan Agosta scored her second of the night as the puck trickled across the line. St-Pierre made 21 saves, while Chris Woo made nine saves before being replaced by Patrick Kingston who registered ten saves. Canada finished with a 2-1 OT victory bringing their record against Midget AAA teams to 4-6-1.
