TEAM CANADA SPLITS GAMES 1-1 ON TWO GAME ROAD TRIP

RED DEER, AB – Team Canada played its second game in as many nights, and after a 9-5 win over St. Albert last night, Canada faced Red Deer for the second time this season.

Red Deer’s Gordie Yake opened the scoring on a rebound with a power play goal at 6:35 of the first period. Canada had a limited amount of opportunities in the offensive zone as they were out shot 13-8 in the opening period, and trailed 1-0.

Canada evened things up at 1-1 when recently converted defenseman Caroline Ouellette snuck one top shelf on the backhand past Tyrel Jennings. But Red Deer countered just over a minute later when Drew Todd slipped one by Charline Labonte who looked to have made the save but the puck trickled through her arm to restore Red Deer’s one goal lead.

Andrew McArthur and Michael Stickland each had a goal and an assist in the third for Red Deer as they skated to a 4-2 victory over Canada. Canada made it close as Sarah Vaillancourt scored with 4:21 left to bring it to within one, but even with the extra attacker out for the last minute, it was as close as they would get as Red Deer added an empty netter. Charline Labonte had a busy night making 38 saves, while Tyrell Jennings stopped 12 shots before Mark Leibel took over in net for the Chiefs registering 9 saves.

Canada’s next game will be against team USA in Columbus, Ohio on November 27.
