Canada 2 - Red Deer Optimist Chiefs 7 Thursday, October 12, 2005 Team Canada played its fifth game against Albertan Midget AAA teams on Thursday night as they hosted the Red Deer Optimists Chiefs at Father David Bauer Arena. Red Deer opened the scoring six minutes into the period on a goal by Cass Mapin. Canada’s Dana Antal responded with a deflection from a point shot by Carla MacLeod to even things at 1-1. Andrew McArthur added a goal a minute later to restore Red Deer’s one goal lead. The second period belonged to Red Deer as they were able to sneak three by Kim St-Pierre in net for Canada. Scott Day scored twice for the Chiefs and Gordie Yake added the other as Red Deer built up a 5-1 lead after two periods. Canada was out scored 2-1 in the third period as Red Deer solidified a 7-2 victory. Dana Antal scored her second goal of the game as she wired a shot at Tyrel Jennings who was only able to get a piece of it. Kim St-Pierre made a number of spectacular saves in net for Canada as she turned aside 34 of Red Deer’s 41 shots. Canada’s next game is in Strathmore on Sunday, October 16 as they take on the UFA Bison’s at 2pm.
