MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Kinplex in Medicine Hat was jam packed to see the hometown Big Country Energy Service Tigers Midget AAA team take on Canada’s Women’s Olympic team. Neither team came storming out of the gates, but it was Medicine Hat who opened the scoring on a goal by Tyler Sadler at the twelve minute mark. Canada replied with a power play goal by Hayley Wickenheiser three minutes later to even things at 1-1. Zach Hay regained the Tigers lead when he fired a puck from behind the goal line that caught the edge of Kim St-Pierre’s pad and deflected in to the net.

The second period was relatively quiet as each team had one power play opportunity, but neither could convert. St-Pierre had an easy period making five saves, while her counterpart David Tetrault wasn’t much busier making seven saves.

Medicine Hat scored their third goal less than a minute into the period when Eric Toews added his second point of the game. Canada had its fair share of opportunities, but were unable to beat the Tigers goalie. Kim St-Pierre had two breakaway saves in the third, but Wes Kahuba and Tyler Sadler each added a goal in the dying minutes of the game to secure a 5-1 victory for the home town team.

Canada will travel to Lethbridge on Wednesday to face the Lethbridge Midget AAA Y’s Titans.
