Canada 5 - Lethbridge Titans 0 Exhibition LETHBRIDGE, AB – After a 5-1 loss in Medicine Hat the previous night, Canada looked like they had something to prove as they carried the play for most of the opening period. The first goal came at the five minute mark when Vicky Sunohara unloaded a cannon of a shot coming down the wing, and Cassie Campbell pounced on the rebound firing it past the sprawled out Lethbridge goalie, Brian Kaval. Canada continued to pressure, and it paid of during a goal mouth scramble when Jayna Hefford batted one home to put Canada up 2-0 at the end of one. The second period was much the same as the first with both teams skating at full tilt. Lethbridge came close when they hit the cross bar, but Charline Labonte made a number of key saves stopping all 14 shots fired at her. Brian Kaval made 8 saves at the opposite end of the ice as both teams were held off the score board during the second period. Thirty seconds into the third period, Jayna Hefford scored her second of the night on a deflection from the point to increase Canada’s lead to 3-0. A minute later Cherie Piper rifled one home to stretch Canada’s lead to 4-0. Canada continued to press the Titan’s resulting in Dana Antal’s high light reel goal when she undressed a defenseman on the blue line before slipping one far side for Canada’s fifth goal. Charline Labonte made 31 saves in the shut-out victory for Canada. Team Canada will go home for a couple of days of rest before heading overseas for a pair of exhibition games in Sweden, and then competing in a four team Pre-Olympic tournament in Turin, Italy.
