Canada White 3 - Canada Red 0 Fall Festival TEAM WHITE BEATS TEAM RED; BOTH TEAMS NOW SIT AT 2-1 Prince George, BC – Sarah Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, QC/Harvard Univ., ECAC) scored two goals and had one assist as Team Canada White beat Team Canada Red 3-0 on Wednesday night at the National Women’s Team Fall Festival. Vaillancourt’s three points earned her player of the game honours. Laura Hosier (Sharon, ON/Mercyhurst College, CHA) stopped 26 shots for the shutout. Vaillancourt opened the scoring at 19:18 of the first period, when she picked up a loose puck and went in alone on Team Red’s Shannon Szabados (Edmonton, AB/Grant MacEwan, ACAC). Vaillancourt, a right-handed shooter, took the puck to her backhand and roofed a shot over Szabados. Team White added to its lead at 9:09 of the second period, when Vaillancourt and Sabrina Harbec (Montreal, QC/St. Lawrence Univ., ECAC) set up Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, QC/Calgary, WWHL) for a goal. And Team White completed the scoring late in the third. Vaillancourt grabbed a puck during a goal-mouth scramble and put it in. Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, ON/Ohio State Univ., WCHA) and Kingsbury got the assists. Vaillancourt now has seven points in four games, tying her for the tournament lead with Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, QC/Beauce-Amiante, midget) of Team Red. Team Red beat Team White 6-1 on Sunday night in the first meeting of the teams at the Fall Festival. Both teams have 2-1 records. Sweden is 0-2. Team White faces off against Sweden on Thursday at 7 p.m., at the Prince George Coliseum. That will be Team White’s final game of the preliminary round and a victory would put the team in Saturday’s gold-medal game. Team Red, meanwhile, has Thursday off before taking on Sweden on Friday night.
