SECOND PERIOD BURST HELPS WHITE TO WIN OVER YELLOW

CALGARY, Alta. – Brianne Jenner (Oakville, Ont./Cornell University, ECAC) had a goal and two assists, while Catherine White (Brampton, Ont./Cornell University, ECAC), Delaney Collins (Pilot Mound, Man./Brampton, CWHL) and Isabel Menard (Ottawa, Ont./Syracuse University, CHA) each added a goal and a helper as White wrapped up a perfect round robin at the National Women’s Team evaluation camp with a 5-1 win over Yellow on Saturday.

Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont./University of Minnesota, WCHA) had the other goal for White, which led 5-0 after 40 minutes thanks to four goals in the middle frame. The win gives White first place in the round robin, but it will have to face Yellow once again when the two teams meet in the camp final on Sunday afternoon (noon MT).

White was successful in large part because it was able to slow down the Yellow offensive juggernaut – Yellow had averaged four-and-a-half goals and 36 shots per game, but managed just 14 shots through the first two periods, none of them getting past Shannon Szabados (Edmonton, Alta./Grant MacEwan University, ACAC).

Natalie Spooner (Scarborough, Ont./Ohio State University, WCHA) finally broke the Szabados shutout with an unassisted effort just past the midway point of the third period, just the second goal scored on the White goaltender in her 90 minutes of camp work. Yellow held a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal in the third period, and 29-25 overall.
