Canada's National Women's Under 22 Team used three third period goals to defeat USA 5-1 Thursday at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY. Canada now has a win and a tie against USA after the two teams played to a 3-3 tie Wednesday night.

USA took an early 1-0 lead as Gretchen Anderson beat Canadian goaltender Lara Smart at the 2:47 mark of the first period. Canada could not beat USA goaltender Brittani Llorente in the first period and trailed 1-0 heading into the second period.

Canada would take a 2-1 lead in the second period as Lara Perks and Gillian Apps each beat Llorente to give Canada a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes left.

With a narrow one-goal lead, Canada would break out in the third period, scoring three goals. Perks, with her second goal of the night and Gina Kingsbury scored to give Canada a 4-1 lead. Apps' second goal of the game came just eight seconds after Kingsbury's goal, giving Canada a commanding 5-1 lead with just under nine minutes to play.

Smart earned the victory between the pipes for Canada, stopping 26 of 27 shots she faced. Llorente took the loss for USA, making 21 saves.

The two teams will play the final game of the series on Saturday at 1:00pm (ET) at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY.
