UNDER 22 SQUAD FINISHES STRONG Canada’s National Women’s Under 22 Team wrapped up their three-game series
against USA with a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY. Canada finished the
series with two wins and one tie.
Gillian Apps put Canada on the board just over two minutes into the opening period, beating USA goaltender
Pam Dryer. Karen Thatcher replied for USA at the nine-minute mark, tying things up at one heading into the
second period.
In the second period, Cherie Piper regained the Canadian lead just 29 seconds in. Defence played a big role
for the remainder of the period as both teams tightened up, keeping the score at 2-1 with 20 minutes to
play.
There was no scoring in the third period until Apps netted her second goal of the game with Dryer pulled
at the 19:46 mark. Apps’ goal solidified the win for Canada and gave them the series victory.
