Hosted on eBay.ca, the online auction raises funds for the Hockey Canada Foundation whose mission is to support initiatives that help ensure Canada remains at the forefront in the development and promotion of amateur hockey as well as creating access to the game.
“Our eBay auctions have been a success because they provide fans with a unique piece of memorabilia, and the Foundation is able to raise funds that help put money back into grassroots hockey and growing our game,” said Al Coates, interim director of the Hockey Canada Foundation.
The auction runs through Tuesday, April 5 – the day after the medal games at the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Winning bidders will be able to select the name-bar and numbers for their jersey. Shipping will commence on April 18.
New ticket package and hockey alum
The Sandman Centre has seen near-capacity crowds for both of Team Canada’s match-ups at this women’s world championship, and Hockey Canada is looking to keep the momentum going strong with the release of a new semifinal Sunday package that includes both semifinal games for $66. Semifinal packages are available online or at the Sandman Centre box office.
Fans attending tonight’s final preliminary-round game at the Sandman Centre could catch a glimpse of some of Canada’s National Women’s Team’s most notable alumnae. Hockey Canada is celebrating and honouring the championship teams of 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004.
“These reunions happen far too infrequently, and we’re looking forward to celebrating these remarkable women who have helped push forward the development of female hockey across the country, and around the world,” said Coates. “Many of these players became household names, including the two who will be on the ice and playing in tonight’s game. This is about honouring the players and staff who helped bring home the gold, and who continue to inspire new generations of players to join the game.”
The alumni will also take part in various events and activities in the city with corporate partners, and take in the quarter-final games on Friday at the Sandman Centre.
