WHITE WINS AGAIN, SHUTS OUT KOREA AT SLEDGE CAMP

JASON LA ROSE

CALGARY, Alta. – Bryan Sholomicki (Winnipeg, Man.) scored a pair of first-period goals to provide all the offence White needed as it blanked Korea 5-0 on Friday afternoon at Canada’s National Sledge Team selection camp.

The Canadian side earned its second clean-sheet win over the Paralympic hosts in four days – White shut out Korea 2-0 on Tuesday in its opener – and made it three camp victories in as many games overall.

Kris Dutkiewicz (Kitchener, Ont.) stopped all 11 shots he faced to record the shutout in his first start of camp.

Sholomicki didn’t waste much time getting the scoring started, going to the net and finishing a set-up from Corbyn Smith (Monkton, Ont.) and Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) to make it 1-0 just 4:40 in.

He doubled the advantage with 7.2 seconds to go in the first period, taking the puck to the net and tucking his shot around Korean goaltender Jae Woong Lee for a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.

The Canadians struggled on the power play in the second period, going goalless on four chances in the middle frame, before Ben Delaney (Ottawa, Ont.) struck for the 3-0 goal with just 1:06 left in the period, putting White up by three heading to the third.

Antoine Lehoux (Thetford Mines, Que.) welcomed Man-Gyun Yu to the game just past the two-minute mark of the final stanza, going low under the blocker to beat the new Korean puck-stopper, and Liam Hickey (St. John’s, N.L.) picked the top corner past Yu with 2:56 remaining to round out the scoring.

The Koreans used all three of their goaltenders – Lee made four saves in the first period, Hyuk-Jun Choi stopped six of seven in the second, and Yu turned aside five of seven in the third.

White finishes off the camp schedule Saturday, taking on Red in intrasquad action (11:15 a.m. MT).
