CALGARY – Hockey Canada announced on Thursday the groupings and schedule for the 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, to be held November 7-11 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, ON.

The tournament will feature 18 games over five days, culminating with the gold medal game on Sunday, November 11. The 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship will attract the top female players in Canada who were born in 1990 or later.

Pool A will feature the three-time defending champions Ontario Red, joined by Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Pool B includes Quebec, Atlantic, British Columbia and Ontario Blue.

“The City of Kitchener is thrilled to be working with the Ontario Women's Hockey Association to once again host a high level women's hockey event,” said Keith Baulk, director of the enterprise division for the City of Kitchener.

“We look forward to welcoming Canada's top Under-18 players to Kitchener for this prestigious competition,” said Fran Rider, executive director of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association. “This is an elite tournament that has helped the careers of such Ontario players as Gillian Apps, Meghan Agosta, Rebecca Johnston and many others.”

The IIHF recently announced that the inaugural World Women’s Under-18 Championship will be held in Canada (location to be determined) from January 7-13, 2008. The National Women’s Under-18 Championship will give Hockey Canada’s scouting staff a chance to evaluate some of the players who may compete at the IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship.
