TYRINGE, SWE – Exactly 100 days prior to the 2006 Winter Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies, Canada’s Women’s Olympic centralized hockey team is in Tyringe, Sweden where it will play a pair of exhibition games this week prior to the pre-Olympic Torino Ice Tournament in Turin, Italy which runs November 7-12, 2005.
Canada is training in Tyringe, Sweden until November 5. Canada’s National Women’s Team will face Sweden’s National women’s hockey team in two ‘pre-Torino Ice’ games: on Thursday, November 3rd in Landskrona and on November 4th, in Tyringe. The team will travel from Sweden to Turin, Italy on November 5th.
“It’s very exciting to be preparing for a competition in Turin, and to be 100 days from the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies,” said Head Coach Melody Davidson. “As a team, we’re looking forward to the competition but also to getting a first look at the facilities that will be used for women’s hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.”
The “Torino Ice Tournament” has two pools (Pool A: Canada, Finland, Sweden, USA / Pool B: Italy and France) and begins on Monday, November 7th with Canada taking on Sweden.

Canada’s roster currently counts 26 players who have been centralized in Calgary, AB since August in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy running from February 10-26, 2006. Twenty five of the 26 players have made the trip overseas (Delaney Collins remained in Calgary to rehabilitate an injury). All 26 players remain in consideration for one of the 20 spots on the final Olympic roster which will be announced by Hockey Canada prior to the deadline.
Canada’s National women’s hockey team will travel back to its training centre in Calgary on Sunday, November 13th to resume its Olympic preparations.

After the Torino Ice Tournament, Team Canada will play seven more pre-olympic international games in North America prior to the Winter Olympics, including three games against Sweden in Alberta on December 10th, 11th, and 13th. Canada’s final pre-Olympic game will be at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB versus USA on January 1st, 2006 (tickets available through ticketmaster).
In preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympic, Canada has played 21 games to date, with an overall record of 14-6-1, including 8-0 versus international teams. Game summaries and statistics for all of Canada's games are available at Hockey Canada’s official website at www.hockeycanada.ca
