KITCHENER, ON – Canada and USA will face off in the 2006 4 Nations Cup final on Saturday, November 11th (4 pm ET). The game will air live across Canada on TSN/RDS. The bronze medal game will have Sweden taking on Finland (12 pm ET). Tickets for both games are still available.

Canada finished the round robin undefeated, with a 3-0 win over the USA and a 7-0 win over Sweden earlier in the week.

USA advanced to the final with a 7-0 win Friday afternoon against Sweden. U.S. captain Krissy Wendell registered five points in the win, with the first goal and then assists on the next four U.S. goals.

The 4 Nations Cup has been an annual event since 1994. It brings together the top four nations in women’s hockey in the world: Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States of America. This year, the 4 Nations Cup is being held in Kitchener, ON, starting on November 7th and concluding on Saturday, November 11th.

This year’s 4 Nations Cup event is taking place during Hockey Canada Week, a national recognition of hockey across Canada, that is celebrated from November 4th to 11th. The 4 Nations Cup is one of many events and initiatives happening this week, check www.hockeycanada.ca for more details.

As well as being the two-time defending Olympic women’s hockey champions, Canada is the reigning 4 Nations Cup champion after claiming victory at last year’s tournament in Finland. Canada has won eight (’05, ‘04, ’02, ’01, ’00, ’99, ’98, ’96) of ten Nation Cup events, dating back to the inaugural event in 1996 (USA won in 19).

Canada has hosted the Nations Cup on three previous occasions. In 2002, when Kitchener hosted this event for the first time, Canada defeated USA 4-2 in the gold medal final. In 1999, Canada defeated USA 3-2 in the 3 Nations final in Montreal, QC while Ottawa, ON saw Canada defeat USA 1-0 in the 1996 3 Nations Cup final.
