HANNOVER, Germany -- Team Canada beat the U.S. Men's National Select Team, 5-3, in the Deutschland Cup on
Thursday. Scott King scored two goals for Canada, including the game-winner, and Jimmy Waite made
24 saves for Canada in front of 14,081 fans. Canada jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the USA in the first period, as Pascal Trepanier scored on the power play at 8:30 and Brad Trapper netted a goal at 12:25. Eric Healey put Team USA on the board at 13:33, to make the score 2-1. Canada's King scored his two goals before the first frame was over to take a comanding 4-1 lead after the 1st period of play. At 9:13 of the second period, Randy Robitaille added one more for Canada, to go up 5-1 on the USA. Despite two late second-period goals, Team USA was not able to come back, and Canada took the game 5-3. Rick DiPietro made 20 saves in net for the U.S. |
