Quotes:
“I thought [Finland] outplayed us in the first part of the game. They were more prepared to win the battles that they needed to win. I felt like we started off a little bit hesitant and more anxious, which took us away from our game. There were positive signs though. I think at times we showed what we are capable of, and now it is about making sure that we bring the urgency and the compete level that we need [against Sweden].”
- Head coach Howie Draper ( Edmonton, Alta./University of Alberta, CW) on his team’s performance
“I am proud of how [we] battled. We just need to get in the dirty areas and win puck battles. We came out a little slower than we hoped, and we need to come out stronger against Sweden. [Hailey MacLeod] is an incredible goalie, and she kept us in the game at times. We could have been down by quite a bit early on if it wasn’t for her insane saves.”
- Tova Henderson (Richmond, B.C./Delta Hockey Academy, CSSHL) on what’s needed for the next game and the performance from goaltender Hailey MacLeod
“ We had 40 shots on net and we know that we need to crash the net more. There were a lot of rebounds, so capitalizing on those chances tomorrow will be very important. We just need to keep rolling. It has been a long time coming and we are all excited to be here, but we need to make sure we are embracing the opportunity.”
- Sarah MacEachern (Cornwall, P.E.I./Etobicoke, OWHA U22 Elite) on creating more scoring chances
