Canada set to face United States in pair of three-game series

44 players will represent Canada in development and under-18 series against the United States.

CALGARY, Alta. – The 23 players selected to Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and National Women’s Under-18 Team will wear the new Team Canada jersey for the first time as compete in a pair of three-game series against the United States in Calgary at the Markin MacPhail Centre from Aug. 14-21.

The two teams – Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team – were selected following selection camps at the Hockey Canada National Teams’ Summer Showcase.

The development team will open its series against the United States on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT, while the puck drops for the under-18 team on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Tickets to the three-game series are available for purchase online by clicking here; an unlimited game pass that includes all series games can be purchased for $20, or single-game tickets are available for $5.

“Our selection camps gave us a great opportunity to evaluate the players in both programs on and off the ice and these decisions were tough to make,” said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s general manager of national women’s team programs. “These series will showcase the depth of talent across Canada at the under-18 and development level and are another important step in the journey of these 46 players as they vie for spots on our teams throughout the season.”

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their provincial and club teams during the 2016-17 season, including at the 2016 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Regina from Nov. 9-13, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2017 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, Jan. 7-14, 2017, in Prerov and Zlin, Czech Republic. Players are also eligible to be selected for Canada’s National Women’s Team events throughout the 2016-17 season.

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2016-17 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2017 Nations Cup in Germany next January, as well as for possible invites to camps and events with Canada’s National Women’s Team.
