MONCTON TAKES FIRST WIN OF THE TOURNAMENT
REGINA, Sask. – Atlantic representatives the Moncton Rockets were on fire for their first game of the Esso
Cup, kicking off this year’s tournament with a 4-1 win over the Remparts du Richelieu from Quebec inside the
Co-operators Centre on Sunday.
Although it took them awhile to warm up, with no goals on either side during the first, by the time the
second period rolled around the sparks were flying under the Rockets’ skates, with Janik Robichaud (Dieppe,
N.B.) opening up the scoring at 12:55 on a rebound from Schyler Campbell (Rexton. N.B.).
Robichaud and Campbell continued to dominate the ice on behalf of Moncton, contributing three and four
points respectively to help the Rockets shoot to their first victory of the tournament. The next goal came
with less than three minutes left in the second, when Campbell took advantage of a rebound off a low shot
from Becky Bowes (Shediac, N.B.).
Richelieu was finally able to answer back at 17:11 in the third, with Geneviève Bannon (Candiac, Que.)
creating a fast break, storming the Moncton net and slipping the puck by netminder Pascale Daigle (Moncton,
N.B.).
But despite losing the potential shutout, Moncton’s momentum continued and Campbell and Robichaud were
able to trade goals and assists in the third period to make the final score 4-1 and give their team three
points in the standings. Robichaud received Player of the Game honours for the Rockets, while Marie-Ève
Cassivi was named Player of the Game for the Remparts.
