Vickie Lemire (Rigaud, Que.) scored Lac St. Louis’s only goal midway through the second period, also on apowerplay.

After suffering two tough losses to earlier in the national championship, including a 4-3 shootout totheNotre Dame Hounds (West) and falling 4-2 to the Edmonton Thunder (Pacific), the win was an importantconfidence boost for Toronto going into the second half of preliminary round action.

Hayley Masters (Horseshoe Valley, Ont.) put the Aeros on the scoresheet first less than two minutes intothefirst, giving them the jump start they need. A Lac St-Louis penalty in the latter half ofthefirstgavedefenceman Emma Greco (Burlington, Ont.) the chance to put another one on the board for herteam,makingit2-0 going into the break.

An upbeat Toronto squad stepped onto the ice in the second determined to keep up the momentum, with anotherpowerplay opportunity allowing Breanne Wilson-Bennett (Markham, Ont.) to put another past theLacSt-Louisgoalline at 8:27, which was followed up by another Aeros goal less than three minutes later from BrookWebster(Aurora, Ont.).

But Lemire, who represented Québec at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, N.S., wasn’t a bout to letToronto skate away with a shutout, digging away at the Aeros net to narrow the gap to 4-1 at13:28intheperiod.

But in the end, the game belonged to Toronto, with Morgan Sly (Collingwood, Ont.) accepting a helper fromWebster to cap it off at 5-1 and send Toronto back into the dressing room with a positive attitude headedinto the remainder of the week at Canada’s National Female Midget Championship.

Toronto takes on the Kings County Kings (Atlantic) at noon MT Wednesday, while Lac St-Louis faces offagainst Edmonton (Pacific) at 4 p.m. MT
