ONTARIO BRINGS HOME BRONZE AT FIRST ESSO CUP APPEARANCE

ST. ALBERT, Alta. – For their first time at an Esso Cup, the Toronto Aeros made quite the impression intheend, taking the bronze home to Ontario by blanking Québec representatives the Kodiaks du Lac St-Louis4-0Saturday afternoon inside the Performance Arena at Servus Place.

Four different players scored to boost Toronto to its bronze medal win, with Jordan McDonell(Toronto,Ont.) putting the puck past the Lac St-Louis goal line within the first five minutes for theearlylead.  Breanne Wilson-Bennett (Markham, Ont.) and Lauren Wildfang (Waterdown, Ont.) were creditedwiththe assists. Wildfang (Waterdown, Ont.) went on to add one of her own at 13:25 in the period, with helpfromAurora girls Brooke Webster and Victoria Andreakos to make it 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Toronto skated into the second with confidence, with Andreakos making it 3-0 at 2:54, on passes fromHayleyMasters (Horseshoe Valley, Ont.) and Wildfang, marking the second time in the game that Andreakos andWildfangwould combine for a goal. Hayley Masters also had a helper (Horseshoe Valley, Ont.). Caitlin Maikawa(Markham,Ont.) capped it off in the last six minutes of the second, sending the Toronto bench into ecstaticcheers.

All the Aeros had to do in the third was hold off the Kodiaks for twenty minutes, and that theydid, protecting their 4-0 lead at all costs until the buzzer sounded on the bronze game and secured thema medalfor their debut at an Esso Cup, an impressive feat for any team.  Taylor Hough (Toronto, Ont.)earnedthe shutout.
