NOTRE DAME’S HOWE HAS FIVE POINTS IN SHUTOUT WIN ST. ALBERT, Alta. – Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, Sask.) kicked off Monday morning’s matchup against theLacSt-Louis Kodiaks (Québec) by assisting her team’s first goal of the game and capping it with one of herown,in the end contributing five points to a 6-0 shutout, the first win of the Esso Cup for the Notre DameHounds(West). The Hounds dominated from the first puck drop, with Natasha Kostenko (Fannystelle, Man.) and JenniferMore(Deloraine, Man.) taking advantage of Kodiak penalties to help the Hounds to an early lead. AfterassistingNotre Dame’s first two markers, Howe added another in the last 40 seconds of the period to make it3-0 goinginto the first intermission. After a tough 3-2 shutout loss to the Edmonton Thunder (Pacific) on opening day, the jump start intheirsecond game of the tournament seemed to give the Hounds the confidence they needed on the ice, withCourtenayJacklin (Regina, Sask.) contributing to the scoreboard midway through the second and Howe helpingout TaylorWoods (Wilcox, Sask.) with four minutes remaining in the period, for a solid 5-0 lead. Howe put the finishing touches on Notre Dame’s win when she scored her second goal of the game on anotherpowerplay just 45 seconds into the third, giving Notre Dame four points in the standings after two gamesplayed. Lac St-Louis goaltender Laurie Anne Beaulieu stood on her head through all three periods, facing 43shots total by the time the buzzer had sounded. Lac St-Louis takes on the Toronto Aeros (Ontario) on Tuesday morning at 12 p.m. MT, while Notre Damefacesoff against the Kings County Kings (Atlantic) at 4 p.m. inside Servus Place. |
