ONTARIO RED’S QUICK START SECURES WIN OVER ONTARIO BLUE

SURREY, B.C. – It didn’t take long for defending champions Team Ontario Red to dominate the ice Wednesday – five seconds in fact. That’s when Hannah Armstrong (Sharon, Ont.) secured her squad’s first goal of the night, setting the pace for an exciting hockey game that saw Ontario Red beat provincial rivals Ontario Blue 4-1.

Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata,Ont.) continued the goal-scoring pattern for Ontario Red, putting one passed Ontario Blue goaltender Kristy Garrow (London, Ont.) at 13:50 in the first period, with an assist credited to Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ont.)

Despite helping secure a solid 2-0 lead for her time going into the second, Rattray wasn’t finished working her magic with the puck, slipping another over the goal line about midway through the period. Erin Ambrose (Keswick, Ont.) and Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont.) provided the passes to make Ontario Red’s third goal of the night happen.

But Ontario Blue wasn’t about to give up early. Jenna Ciotti (Manotick, Ont.) was helped out by Aurora Kennedy (Mississauga, Ont.)and Danielle Gagne (Brampton, Ont.) to put her team on the score sheet, putting the score at 3-1.

Ontario Red’s Shannon Stoneburgh (Pickering, Ont.) secured her team’s fourth and final goal of the night in the last thirty seconds play.

Team Ontario Blue (0-1) is back on the ice tomorrow morning for a game against Team Saskatchewan (10 a.m. PT), while Team Ontario Red (1-0) faces Team Atlantic in the first evening game (5 p.m. PT).
