Three first period powerplay goals and four second period goals catapulted the Okotoks Oilers to a 7-3 victory over Team Germany Friday night at the Okotoks Centennial Arena.
Team Germany, half a day after landing in Calgary, played their first of two exhibition games before prior to the World Junior A Challenge.
Chris Duszynski and Elliott Sheen each recorded a goal and two assists in the game.
Sheen was named player of the game for the home team.
Brian Doust, Derek Rodwell, David Civitarese, Carter Madsen and Zack Mackinnon tallied the other Oilers’ goals.
After giving up three early goals Team Germanys’ David Wolf answered with his goal. After falling behind 7-1 Michael Christ and Soren Sturm replied with late third period goals.
Sturm was named Germany’s player of the game.
The Team Germany parade to the penalty box with eight first period minors determined the game early.
The shot totals only separated by three (32-29) for Okotoks respectively, each team was aggressively firing the puck on net.
Team Germany will wrap up their exhibition play on Saturday Nov. 3 in Castlegar against Team Belarus.
After Saturday’s game Team Germany will see their first action as part of the World Junior A Challenge Tuesday where they will hit the ice against Team Canada West.
