| CANADA LOSES IN SHOOTOUT, WILL PLAY FOR BRONZE OSTRAVA, Czech Republic – Canada is out of the hunt for the gold medal at the 2009 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship. Marc Dorion (Bourget, Ont.) scored with 1:41 remaining to force overtime, but the Canadians came up short in a shootout, losing 2-1 to the United States in Thursday's semifinal. Canada will now play for bronze on Saturday. The U.S. took a 1-0 lead early in the second period on a goal off the stick of Adam Page, the youngest player in the tournament, but the Canadians equalized in the dying minutes of the third, as Dorion notched his second of the world championship to force overtime. Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) opened the scoring in the shootout for Canada, but his shot would be the only one to beat American netminder Steve Cash. After Taylor Lipsett scored on Canadian goaltender Paul Rosen (Thornhill, Ont.) to tie the score, Page converted in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Americans the win. The U.S. earned a measure of revenge with the victory - the Americans lost to Canada in a shootout in the gold medal game of the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup in Vancouver, B.C. in March. |
