August 15, 2003
Piestany, SVK

Team Canada will come up short of a gold medal at the annual International Under-18 event for the first time in eight years after coming up on the shortend of a 4-3 overtime game against the USA. Canada had a 2-0 lead in the first period on power play goals by Alex Bourret and Cam Barker. USA replied with three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

With just two minutes remaining in the game, Canadian forward Michael Blunden tied things up at three to force overtime. The Americans capitalized on an odd man rush and beat Canadian goaltender, Julien Ellis-Plante for the overtime winner. Canada will now face the loser of the Russia vs. Czech Republic semi-final for the bronze medal, Saturday, August 16.
