EXHIBITION Canada's National Women's team defeated Team Russia 8-1, Wednesday night in Gander, Newfoundland. The win was Canada's second in as many nights, after beating Russia 6-0 Tuesday night in St. John's, NF. Canada took a 3-0 lead into the third period before exploding for 5 goals in the final frame. The goal of the game came at the 14:11 mark of the third when Dana Antal, while sprawled out on her stomach, lifted a shot over Russian goaltender Irina Votintseva into the top corner. Leading the way for Canada were Jennifer Botterill with a goal and two assists and Correne Bredin, who had a goal and an assist. Cassie Campbell also contributed two assists for Team Canada. Winnipeg native, Sami Jo Small stopped 15 of 16 shots to record her 24th career National Women's team victory. Defenceman, Isabelle Chartrand returned to Canada's lineup after missing Tuesday's game with the flu. Her replacement, Cherie Piper, who played her first ever game on defence for the National Women's Team, did not dress. Canada will continue their Newfoundland tour with a game in Cornerbrook on Friday before heading to Grand Falls-Windsor for the final game of the tour on Saturday.
