Hayley Wickenheiser scored three goals and added an assist, leading Canada to a 5-1 victory over Sweden at the 4 Nations Cup at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, ON on Thursday evening. With the win, Canada (2-0-0) gains an automatic birth in Sunday's final game (4pm ET, WTSN), despite still having one round robin game left versus Finland on Saturday.

Sweden jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a first period power play goal as Nanna Jansson's shot caromed off a skate and found its way into the Canadian net at the 5:24 mark. Canadian goaltender Sami Jo Small (Winnipeg, MB) had no chance as the shot was clearly going wide of the net before deflecting. That would be the only time Canada would fall behind during the game. With under thirty seconds left in the period, Hayley Wickenheiser (Shaunavon, SK) skated past two Swedish defenders and went in all alone to beat goaltender Kim Martin with a backhand to the top corner. The period would end in a 1-1 tie.

In the second, Canada's Cherie Piper (Scarborough, ON) converted a great Cathy Chartrand (Lac Nominingue, PQ) pass in front of the net and beat Martin low to the stick side to give Canada their first lead of the game. Chartrand's assist was her first ever point with Canada's National Women's Team. Canada would take a two goal lead at the 18:50 mark as Wickenheiser broke in alone once again and fired a hard wrist shot over Martin's glove.

In the final frame, Wickenheiser's third goal of game came from a low shot from the right circle which eluded the Swedish goaltender, giving Canada some breathing room with a 4-1 lead. The goal was Wickenheiser's 80th all-time goal, making her only the second National Women's Team player to accomplish the feat (Danielle Goyette is the other). Therese Brisson's (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, PQ) first goal of the season at the 16:43 mark gave Canada a 5-1 win. Brisson one-timed a pass from Wickenheiser.
Sami Jo Small recorded the win between the pipes for Canada making 14 saves, while Martin took the loss for Sweden, stopping 54 of Canada's 59 total shots.

Canada's next game will be Saturday night at the Aud in Kitchener, ON when they face off against Finland at 7:30pm (EST). Canada will then play in the final game on Sunday, November 10 versus one of USA/FIN or SWE, depending on Saturday's game results.
