USA ADVANCES TO FINAL AT 4 NATIONS CUP

Kitchener, ON – USA is back on track. The Americans served notice that they will continue to be a power to be reckoned with on Friday, handily defeating the Swedes 7-0 in their final game of the round robin. Team USA captain Krissy Wendell led the attack with five points, on the strength of one goal and four assists.

The last time that Sweden and USA faced off, it was back in February for a berth in the Olympic final. At that time, Sweden stunned the highly favoured Americans and the hockey world, winning in a shootout to advance to the Olympic gold medal final against Canada. On Friday in Kitchener, roles were reversed with the U.S. winning and getting a spot in the 4 Nations Cup final.

The Americans were full deserving of the win, dominating from start to finish. Wendell scored what proved to be the winning goal at 5:23 of the opening frame. Wendell then set up the next four goals, two by Erika Lawler and singles by Natalie Darwitz and Gigi Marvin.

Hilary Knight and 17 year old Jocelyne Lamoureux also scored for the U.S. The Americans’ dominance was evident on the shot clock, as they had a 48-18 advantage. The U.S. now faces Canada in the 4 Nations Cup final. Canada won their round robin match-up 3-0. The final game is at 4 pm ET at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are still available for the game. The final will be broadcast live on TSN/.RDS.

Sweden and Finland face off for bronze at 12pm (ET) at The Aud.

USA AND SWEDEN FACE OFF FOR SPOT IN 4 NATIONS CUP FINAL

Kitchener, ON - When USA and Sweden take to the ice Friday afternoon (4pm ET), it will be a rematch of the Olympic semi-final match-up and, for all accounts and purposes, is another semi-final game at the 2006 4 Nations Cup. The team that wins today's game will move on to the final against Canada (4pm ET on Saturday, November 11th - live on TSN/RDS). The last time these two hockey nations met, Sweden stunned USA with a shootout victory and moved on the gold medal game, eventually losing 4-1 to Canada. The Americans will no doubt be looking for revenge on Friday against Sweden.
