Team A/White 3 - Team C/Red 4 Fall Festival TEAM RED TAKES BIG LEAD IN ROUND ROBIN STANDINGS Kenora, ON – Team Red is in the driver’s seat at the 2006 National Women’s Team Fall Festival. With only two games left in the round robin, Team Red leads the Fall Festival standings with 12 points, after a 4-3 win over Team White on Friday afternoon in Kenora. Kaley Hall’s goal with 41 seconds to play in the second period proved to be the winner for Team Red in Friday afternoon’s game. Three-time Olympians Jayna Hefford (Kingston, ON) and Danielle Goyette (St-Nazaire, QC) scored in the first period to give Team Red a 2-0 lead through fifteen minutes of play. Team White scored a quick goal in the second period, as Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, ON), registered a power play goal at 0:18. Olympian Meghan Agosta restored the two goal lead at 11:57 with a quick shot that eluded Charline Labonté. Team White’s Cherie Piper (Scarborough, ON) and Team Black’s Kaley Hall exchanged goals to make the score 4-2 through thirty minutes of play. Trailing in the standings, Team White needed a big third period to get into the running for a spot in the final game on Saturday. They climbed to within one goal at 11:26, as Annie Guay (Rouyn-Noranda, QC) put a loose puck past Shannon Szabados. But that was as close as it would get, and Team Red registered a 4-3 win. With one game left on Friday, and two games left in the round robin the Fall Festival standings are as follows: Team Red has 12 points, Team Black follows with eight (8) points, and Team White has five (5) points. The top two teams in the standings after Saturday morning’s game will face off in the Championship Game on Saturday night. The third place team will be divided into two squads and play a 3-on-3 game just prior to the Championship Game. |
