TEAM RED CONTINUES TO ROLL

Kenora, ON – Team Red has been the class of the round robin at the 2006 National Women’s Team Fall Festival and added a convincing 5-1 win over Team Black on Friday night. The win guaranteed Team Red a first place finish, even with one game remaining on Saturday morning.

Team Red set the pace with two goals in the opening period. Caroline Ouellette (Montreal, QC) and Pamela Pachal (Saltcoats, SK) scored on Kim St-Pierre.

Jayna Hefford (Kingston, ON) scored two to open up the second period, and midway through the game, Team Red had taken a 4-0 lead. Hayley Wickenheiser (Shaunavon, SK) broke the shutout for Sami Jo Small with a powerful slapshot at 10: 38. But Team Red was back in front by four goals less than three minutes later, when Kaley Hall (Calgary, AB) jumped on a rebound and put it by St-Pierre.

The third period was scoreless. Team Black must now get some help from Team Red to advance to the Championship Game.

With only one game left in the round robin at the Fall Festival standings are as follows:
Team Red has 15 points and will finish 1st; Team Black stands second with eight (8) points but no games left, and Team White ranks third with five (5) points.

Team White faces Team Red in the final game of the round robin on Saturday morning in Kenora. Team White can advance to the final with a win, and one goal in the post-game shootout. (Post-game shootout goals also count towards the standings). The third place team will be split into two sides and will face off in a 3-on-3 game just prior to the Championship Game which goes at 8:30 pm (Central Time) at the Kenora Recreational Centre.
