WIEBE SCORES WINNER LATE AS SASKATCHEWAN TOPS MANITOBA
Alyssa Wiebe scored the game-winner on a two-man advantage with just 35 seconds to go, giving Saskatchewan
a 4-3 win over Manitoba in Group A action at the 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship on Wednesday
afternoon.
Wiebe snapped a shot past goaltender Delayne Brian just six seconds after Manitoba’s Bailey Bram was sent
off for tripping, giving Saskatchewan (1-0) a 5-on-3 advantage. The win was the first for the Prairie
province in their last seven games at this event, dating back to the January 2005 event.
Rianne Wight, Tiara Schoenroth and Shelby Nisbet also scored for Saskatchewan, who built an early 2-0 lead
only to see Manitoba (0-1) come back to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. Saskatchewan will face Ontario
Red on Thursday afternoon (1:00 p.m. ET).
Bram – who was named Manitoba’s Player of the Game – scored once and added two assists, while captain
Chelsea Karpenko had a pair of goals in a losing cause. Manitoba, who held a 39-22 advantage in shots on
goal, will face Alberta on Thursday afternoon (4:00 p.m. ET).
