2009 National Women's Under-18 Championship

DAY 5– SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2009

1. Jamie Lee Rattray (F/A) – Ontario Red
Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, Ont.) kicked off Ontario Red’s gold medal win with a goal 14 seconds into the first, set up the second marker of the night before the period was up and contributed another couple of assists in the third to help her team win its sixth-straight championship title.

2. Christine Lambert (F/A) – Quebec
Offensive force Christine Lambert (Thetford Mines, Que.) helped Quebec earn its bronze medal by scoring both goals of a 2-1 game against Manitoba.

3. Danielle Butters (G) – Ontario Blue
She may have lost in the final matchup of the tournament, but Danielle Butters (London, Ont.) was a big reason why Ontario Blue got there in the first place and played a strong last game between the posts to help her team find its silver lining.

DAY 4 – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2009

1. Danielle Butters (G) – Ontario Blue

Through three periods of regulation play and a ten-minute overtime period, Danielle Butters (London, Ont.) stood her ground between the posts without letting in a single Quebec goal. Her outstanding goaltending skills helped earn Ontario Blue its first ever berth into the gold medal game.

2. Kristen Richards (F/A) – Ontario Blue

2. Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ont.) scored the sudden victory shootout goal to give Ontario Blue the 1-0 win over Quebec in semifinal action Saturday at South Surrey Arena. She showed soft hands and skill to put the puck past the goal line.

3. Cloé Desjardins (G) – Quebec

Cloé Desjardins (St-Prosper, Que.) kept her team in the game during semifinal action Saturday night, stopping 27 Ontario Blue shots to send both teams into overtime – and then a sudden death shootout.

DAY 3 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2009

1. Krista Funke (G) – Saskatchewan
Her team may have lost in the end, but there’s no question Krista Funke (Regina, Sask.) was the key to keeping her team in the game against five-time defending champions Ontario Red – she stood her ground to stop an outstanding 46 shots on net.

2. Tessa Dusik (F/A) – Manitobaz

Tessa Dusik (Oak Bluff, Man.) was one of two Manitoba players who had a hat trick Friday night, playing a pivotal role in a huge 13-0 win over British Columbia and ensuring her team is still in the race for a gold medal.zzzzz

3. Gabrielle Davidson (F) – Quebec.
Gabrielle Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Que.) was an offensive force on the ice Friday, contributing to three of five goals – two goals and an assist – to help Quebec secure both a 5-0 win over Alberta and a spot in Saturday’s semifinal action.

DAY 2 – THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2009

1. Ariane Barker (F/A) – Quebec
Ariane Barker (Napierville, Que.) secured Quebec’s first two goals Thursday night at South Surrey Arena, kicking the game off on the right foot and setting the pace for a 6-1 win over British Columbia. She also had an assist on a power play goal, for three points total.

2. Ayla Frank (G) – Team Atlantic
It’s an understatement to stay stopping 44 shots over three periods is a solid day’s work, even if your team loses anyway, but that’s exactly what Ayla Frank (Labrador City, N.L.) did Thursday evening in Surrey to keep her team in the game against defending champions Ontario Red.

3. Jenna Ciotti (F/A) – Ontario Blue
Jenna Ciotti (Manotick, Ont.) opened and closed the scoring for her team Thursday morning in Surrey, with her two goals on the day playing a big role in Ontario Blue’s 3-1 win over Saskatchewan.

DAY 1 – WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2009

1. Jillian Saulnier (F/A) – Team Atlantic
Team Atlantic shone for their first game of the tournament Wednesday, but forward Jillian Saulnier (Halifax, N.S.) sparkled at South Surrey Arena, securing her team’s first of six goals against Saskatchewan. In total, she skated away with two goals and two assists in the 6-1 win.

2. Jamie Lee Rattray (F/A) – Ontario Red
Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, Ont.) scored half of her team’s goals Wednesday in Surrey, leading her team to a 4-1 victory on the first day of the National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

3.  Akane Hosoyamada (D) - Alberta
Akane Hosoyamada (Banff, Alta.) helped Alberta turn a game with a scoreless first period into a 4-2 win over British Columbia for her team, by kicking off the second with a goal in the first minute and another in the last two minutes of the period.
