QUEBEC DOUBLES SASKATCHEWAN IN FRONT OF A NOISY HOME CROWD Saguenay, Que. – The Centre Georges-Vézina was crowded with kids that came to cheer for the home team at the National Women’s Under-18 tournament in Quebec. With two wins in the preliminary round, Quebec already had their spot secured in the semifinal. Saskatchewan knew that they would have to battle for the seventh spot on Saturday morning and was still looking for their first goal at the event.
Six different players scored for Quebec with Sabrina Tremblay (Sherbrooke, Que.) leading the way with a goal and an assist. Saskatchewan tallied their three first goals of the tournament. After yesterday’s win, Quebec’s coach Pascal Dufresne said to his players that every game wasn’t easy and the team started this game with that in mind. Tremblay deked two players in the opposing end to beat Samantha Ridgewell (Delisle, Sask.) with a beauty to open the scoring. Almost seven minutes later, Êve-Audrey Picard (Longueuil, Que.) sent the puck to the back of the net. Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean’s native Stéphanie Lalancette (St. Félicien, Que.) had a helper on the play. In the middle frame, Laurence Porlier (Maria, Que.) beat the netminder to give Quebec a three-goal lead with Saskatchewan playing short two players on the goal. They didn’t stop working and notched their first goal in Saguenay when Adria Gorski (Régina, Sask.) scored and Kaitlin Willoughby (Canwood, Sask.) getting the assist on the goal. Quebec then answered with two goals within three minutes to secure the victory. Saskatchewan will play for seventh place tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET while Quebec will take the ice for the semi-final at 8 p.m. ET. There are still good seats available for those games at the Centre Georges-Vézina. Every game except the gold medal game will be webcast at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com. With the gold medal game airing on TSN/RDS (check your local listings). |
