Team Summary/Sommaire d'Équipe

Did you know?

… that every member of China’s 1994 world championships team played for the same club team, Harbin

China's national program suffered a valuable loss of experience last year when the 2003 IIHF World Women's Championship was cancelled because of SARS. A year later, in Halifax, Team China will be a different team from the one that put in an entertaining performance in Salt Lake City, at the 2002 Winter Olympics finishing seventh. The biggest factor in China's performance will be in goal where Hong Guo - the woman everyone called the "China Wall" - will be asked to shoulder the weight of the team's expectations. Tall and athletic, she will be the difference between narrow victory or lop-sided defeat, as her showing at the 2002 Olympics demonstrated. In all, 13 players from Salt Lake City will be at this year's tournament. On the downside, only two players - Xiaojun Ma and Rui Sun - even scored a single goal in Salt Lake City, leaving an offensive gap for the current forwards to try to fill. The top scorers from 2002 are gone - Hongmei Liu and Xiuqing Yang. Other forwards from 2002 playing for China in Halifax include Jing Zhang, Linuo Wang, Fengling Jin, Yanhui Liu, Ying Wang, Quiwai Dai, and Limei Jiang. Returning to the blueline are Xuan Li, Tiantian Shen, Weinan Guan, and Yan Lu. Rookies to the team feature Xuefei Li, Xueting Qi, Jinping Ma, Liang Tang, Ben Zhang, Ziwei Su, Xiuli Li, Anqi Tan, Shuang Zhang, and Fujin Gao.
