Meghan Agosta, Courtney Birchard, Laura Fortino, Caroline Ouellette and Marie-Philip Poulin all added markers to the scoreboard in Friday’s semifinal against Finland, helping earn Canada a berth in the gold medal game at worlds in Burlington.

Sixteen different players contributed to the scoreboard, forward Natalie Spooner had a hat trick, and rookie Lauriane Rougeau notched her first international goal in Canada’s 14-1 win over Russia at women’s worlds Tuesday in Burlington.

Laura Fortino scored in the first, Caroline Ouellette added another in the second, and Gillian Apps topped it off in the third to help Canada edge Finland 3-2, for the red and white’s first win at the women’s world championship in Burlington, Vt.

Five goals in the first six minutes sealed Canada’s fate Saturday night against the U.S., but a tough loss is a lesson learned for the red and white, who look to turn things around quickly in Burlington, starting with Game 2 on Sunday against Finland.

Meghan Agosta scored in the first and third, and twelve players contributed to the scoreboard, in Canada’s 8-0 exhibition win Thursday over Sweden, in the red and white’s last game before heading to Burlington, Vt., for the world championship.
