YVES BASTIEN MAKES NATIONAL UNDER-18 TEAM

Dowling’s Yves Bastien, 17, made the 2006-07 Canadian National Men’s Under-18 team, which is competing in the Junior World Cup this week in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic. The event runs from Aug. 8 to 12.

Bastien, a five-foot-nine, 165-pound spark plug, played last season with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL. It was his rookie season. » more

U18 PLAYING FORMAT

Each team will play once against other teams within its group - round robin (3 games per team).

The winner of each game receives three (3) points for the win.  The loser will receive zero (0) points.  If, at the end of regulation time, any game is tied - both teams will receive one (1) point.  All tied games will go into overtime (OT is 5 minutes in length and played 4 on 4), with both teams receiving one (1) point for being tied after 3 periods of play.  If, after OT, any game is still tied, then the game will go to penalty shots with the winner of the shootout receiving one (1) additional point.

All games will be played under IIHF rules and regulations (including the IIHF rules regardings rankings).

AUGUST 12th GAMES INFO.

All teams will play a game on August 12th, but which game they play depends upon its rankings after the round robin.  The schedule of who plays who, where and when will NOT be known until August 11th mid-day.  The top two teams in groups A and B will play for the 'gold medal'.  The Czechs and Slovaks will play their game, regardless of ranking, at their 'home' arena.  If the Czechs end up playing vs. Slovakia, then that game will be played in the location of the team with the best overall ranking.
