MAZZOTTA STOPS 31 SHOTS FOR SHUTOUT IN ONTARIO RED WIN
Amanda Mazzotta turned aside all 31 shots she faced during a Player of the Game performance as Ontario Red
got their quest for a fourth straight National Women’s Under-18 Championship started on the right foot with a
3-0 win over Alberta on Wednesday night.
The shutout was the seventh in eight games for Ontario Red at the event, dating back to the January 2005
championship, and was the 15th consecutive win for the team. They have not dropped a game since a 5-4 loss to
Quebec in the 2001 round robin.
Jessica Jones, Candice Styles and hometown favourite Laura McIntosh, from nearby Waterloo, scored for
Ontario Red (1-0), who jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game, putting the pressure
on the Albertans early. Ontario Red will look to go 2-0 when they take on Saskatchewan on Thursday afternoon
(1:00 p.m. ET).
Goaltender Kanesa Shwetz received the Player of the Game nod for Alberta (0-1), making 32 saves in a
losing effort. Alberta returns to the ice Thursday afternoon (4:00 p.m. ET) when they take on Manitoba.
