2003 IIHF Women's World Championship

IIHF Cancels 2003 World Women’s Hockey Championship during Annual Congress

 The IIHF Congress decided that the 2003 IIHF World Women Championship, which initially was to be held in Beijing, China, is cancelled and that the upcoming 2004 IIHF World Women Championship in Halifax, Canada will be organized with nine teams. The top eight teams (CAN, USA, RUS, FIN, GER, CHN, SWE, SUI) will be joined by Japan who won the 2003 IIHF World Women Championship, Division 1 in Ventspils, Latvia.

Other developments from the IIHF Congress:

•The 2005 IIHF World Women Championship was allocated to Linkoping and Norrkoping, Sweden while the 2005 IIHF World U20 Championship was allocated to Grand Forks (North Dakota) and Thief River Falls (Minnesota), USA.
